The Mirage In Las Vegas Transforms
LAS VEGAS – The Mirage, the hotel that introduced the concept of destination resort to the Las Vegas Strip in 1989, is undergoing a transformation intended to maintain its preeminent position in an increasingly competitive tourism market. To recapture its leading-edge position, The Mirage has introduced new amenities including restaurants created by the world’s most acclaimed designers and featuring menus by renowned chefs, a dynamic nightclub, a modern gaming area featuring Dale Chihuly sculptures and a Cirque du Soleil production celebrating the musical legacy of The Beatles. Additionally, the resort’s volcano, the iconic Mirage feature recognized around the world, will undergo a fiery enhancement. “At its opening, and for years following it, The Mirage set the standard for Las Vegas resorts. The changes we’ve already made and continue to introduce will ensure that the resort remains at the forefront of the city’s contemporary scene,” said Scott Sibella, president and COO of The Mirage.
The transformation includes: STACK Restaurant & Bar – The Light Group presents its second restaurant venture (FIX at Bellagio is the first) with STACK at The Mirage. The menu reflects a return to fun, approachable American cuisine. Chef Brian Massie focuses on simply grilled top-quality fish, meat and poultry. The space has been designed by Graft of LA to create a warm, welcoming environment within a unique and vibrant design. (Opened December 2005) JET Nightclub – The Light Group, which set the standard for Las Vegas nightlife and dining with its sophisticated, stylish and celebrity-attracting Light Nightclub, Caramel Bar & Lounge, FIX Restaurant & Bar at Bellagio and Mist Lounge at Treasure Island, has introduced the latest evolution of nightlife artistry with JET Nightclub. Acclaimed designer Jeffrey Beers has transformed the 15,000 square feet of space into a sleek, modern multi-level environment for the ultimate nightclub experience. (Opened December 2005) kokomo’s – One of the city’s most successful steakhouses, kokomo’s now has a new contemporary look created by internationally acclaimed designer Adam Tihany. Tihany has repositioned the entrance of the restaurant to the main hotel lobby and added a sleek new bar that becomes the focal point of activity. Serving fine steak and exotic seafood dishes, kokomo's presents a culinary experience as varied and dynamic as the space that defines it. (Re-opened December 2005) Fin – Chef Chi Choi, a master with a Hong Kong-style wok, leads the menu innovation for this high-end, contemporary Chinese restaurant. With a décor largely centered around elegant glass designs, the restaurant showcases a spectacular water feature gracing one end of the room. Walking a fine line between edgy and elegant, the project’s award-winning designer, Yabu Pushelberg of Toronto, artfully reconciles opposites. (Opened November 2005)
High Limit Lounge and Baccarat – Renowned glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, whose works have been exhibited in every major museum in the world, was commissioned to enhance the new contemporary look with his distinctive pieces. Throughout the lounge’s three separate, semi-private gaming areas, private buffet and dining rooms, the contemporary design brings together unique finishes and textures such as bronze, stainless steel, wood and glass. (Opened July 2005) Cirque du Soleil – LOVE™ brings the magic of Cirque du Soleil together with the spirit and passion behind the most beloved rock group of all time – The Beatles – to create a vivid, intimate and powerful entertainment experience. This show is a joint artistic venture and marks the first time that Apple Corps has agreed to a major theatrical partnership. LOVE is presented in a custom-built theatre at The Mirage featuring 360° seating and advanced high-definition video projections with 100-foot digital, moving images. (Opened June 2006) Japonais – The marriage of modern day Japan with old-style European elegance, this Chicago concept is the brainchild of designer Jeffrey Beers, restaurateurs Miae Lim and Rick Wahlstedt and Chefs Jun Ichikawa and Gene Kato. Both the food and design have drawn rave reviews and this will be the first extension of the successful Chicago restaurant. Offering the best of new Asian cuisine, Japonais will take the space formerly occupied by Mikado and the Ava lounge. (Opens Summer 2006) Volcano –Wet Design will enhance the resort’s iconic volcano to include fire explosions which blast taller, lava which appears hotter, sounds which boom louder and an overall more realistic volcano experience. (To be completed in 2007) The Mirage, a AAA Four Diamond Polynesian paradise, opened in November 1989, setting a new standard of hotel excellence for Las Vegas and sparking a transformation that made the city one of the world's most popular resort destinations.
